I can still remember my first day in your class, when I gave an answer and the whole class laughed, both because my accent was strange to them, and my answer was stupid. The look on your face said so much – “hey, that was pretty funny, but hang in there, it’ll work out.” You were the only person in school who guessed when things weren’t going well for me, and had the time to say a few words. You inspired in me a love of words and language, and took me from being a kid who hoped to be a mechanic to someone who expected to graduate with a degree (and did). You truly helped to open the world to me – I am so very grateful that you came into my life at exactly the right time. Thank you.
