Thanks Brother Christopher,

Marist College

In Form 3 (Year 9) in 1969, you took a real risk in your very first English lesson with us, allowing us freedom to do whatever we wanted within the classroom for the first 10 minutes (and we kind of ran riot).  Then you calmed us down and introduced the novel we were to read – “Lord of the Flies”. And you asked what our behaviour just then had told us about how a group of school kids free from the usual rules of society might respond.  It was such a vivid experience and novel teaching approach that it’s stayed with me all my life.
